This park is dominated by the perennial Tarangire River and is characteristically known for its giant baobab trees reaching to the sky. The most spectacular feature of Tarangire is its large elephant population. In fact, it has the largest population of any park in northern Tanzania. Tarangire is currently experiencing an elephant baby boom and you will notice a lot of juniors and babies as members of the herd. Also, expect to see zebra, eland, mongoose, giraffe, bush-buck, hartebeest, dik-dik, impala, warthog, and reed-buck. Primates you may encounter are olive baboon, vervet monkey and bush baby. Many carnivores are abundant throughout the park such as lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and jackal.

In the afternoon you have the option to enjoy a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. This park boasts a diverse and varied terrain in a relatively small area. The park stretches along the base of the 600m high Rift Valley escarpment. Lake Manyara covers two thirds of the park. Incredibly, the other third of the park is home to a variety of animals, which are supported by open savannah grassland with rocky outcrops, marshes and acacia woodland. The park is famous for tree-climbing lions and a huge variety of birds including flamingo. Other animals found here are buffalos, zebras, hippos, leopards, elephants and giraffes. Alternatively, you may wish to visit Mto wa Mbu village, to discover the history and culture of the Iraqw people in a village close to Karatu or you can decide to remain and enjoy the hospitality of your accommodation at Ngorongoro Farm House which is renowned for its lush garden.

The Crater is a world heritage site and the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and is commonly referred to as the 8th wonder of the world. The 2,000 feet high walls of the approximately 10 mile wide crater create a natural amphitheatre for the densest populations of large animals anywhere in the world. With a resident population of over 25,000 mammals, you are sure to be overwhelmed by the abundance of wildlife that exists within the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is a microcosm of the African safari experience and in one day it is possible to see a staggering array of wildlife including all the big carnivores. With abundant and easily accessible wildlife the Ngorongoro Crater is truly inspiring with a strikingly majestic and sublime landscape. In the early afternoon we bid the Ngorongoro Crater farewell and make our way back to your accommodation at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

After saying goodbye to the Maasai, you will enjoy lunch en-route as we head towards the world famous Serengeti National Park which is unequalled for its beauty and scientific value and has come to symbolize the classic African Safari. The vast, endless grass plains are among the richest grazing grounds in Africa, making it home to some of the largest herds on the planet. With more than 2 million wildebeest, 500,000 Thomson’s gazelle, and 250,000 zebra to name but a few, the wildlife population of this park is simply staggering. Throughout the year, the huge wildebeest and zebra herds move in a clockwise direction around the plains, searching for fresh grazing grounds. Enjoy an overnight stay at your accommodation at Serengeti Serena Lodge.
